Overview
The ever-increasing popularity of interactive web platforms has led to an explosion of online user generated content (UGC) such as social media posts, questions/answers on discussion forums, blogs, tweets, audio and video content, and user reviews and comments. This new source of data is of great interest to researchers in multiple domains such as news media, sociology, market research, and advertising. Using UGC to infer answers to questions of interest in these domains is a new and promising area of research with many challenges and practical applications. Even as new forms of UGC are being created everyday, there is a growing need for consolidating current efforts in modeling, analysis and inference on UGC. This workshop is a step in this direction where we bring together leading researchers from academia and industry working on the problems involving UGC to share experiences and discuss future directions. Apart from invited talks from experts working at the frontiers of UGC research, there will be poster sessions where selected participants will present published work involving UGC data. For more information: WAIU 2016
